One of my greatest pleasures is a long walk with Angela.
There are so many benefits to walking. Here are just a few:
- Walking is inclusive – almost everyone can do it!
- The necessary equipment is right down there. Two feet and your neighborhood.
- It’s the foundation for good health and makes life better.
- It modestly reduces body fat.
- It improves glycemic control, improves triglyceride levels, and lowers blood pressure.
- It might help you live longer if you do it briskly.
- Walking is tolerated by people with arthritis (and could even improve their condition).
- It’s good for your brain.
- It reduces stress.
- It boosts immune function.
- It prevents falls in the elderly (by helping improve strength and balance).
- It gives you a chance to think.
- It makes you more aware of the present moment.
