Grandma and Grandpa are visiting from Texas this week. Both Joshua (9) and Grandpa love to look for rocks. They’re both rock hounds! We decided to go up in the mountains and we had a great day hanging out around St. Peter’s Dome (on the backside of Cheyenne Mountain). Reflecting on this precious day here’s part of what I experienced:
- Sitting on an outcropping just below the dome Joshua and I watched two hawks soaring through the sky. We talked about how beautiful they were.
- Waiting for Grandpa as he came UP the trail with Texas lungs. He was a trooper!
- Finding a gravesite marked “For our beloved Pete.”
- Dad, I wish we could go see that mine down there. We’ll find a way on our next trip.
- Laughing with Joshua as we listened to a noisy black squirrel.
- Eating lunch that Angela made for us; and getting home and hearing, “Mom, that was the best sandwich I’ve ever had!”
- Watching Grandpa and Joshua compare rocks.
- Our beautiful Colorado blue sky against green mountains.
- Walking back to the truck, “Dad, this was a really, really fun day.”
- Putting Joshua to bed that night I asked him what was the most fun part of the day. He thought for a bit and said, “the view.” In my mind I translated that as the 15 minutes we sat alone on the big rock just below the dome.
Don’t Miss The View! Times like this with special people in our lives are incredibly important and can be too easily missed. What a great day to reflect on the blessing of children and grandparents.
I hope you’re having similar wonderful experiences with your grandchildren or children or will be creating those over the summer.
To Your Best 2nd Half,
