The statistic hasn’t changed for years. More than 67 percent of people over age 65 will require some form of long-term care.
- Where will you get the money?
- Where will you receive care?
- Who will provide care?
Nursing homes continue to close reducing available beds. 140 million people will be turning 65 over the next 25 years. With less nursing home beds will this create a problem?
Is there really such a thing as a good nursing home? I’ve been to many. Doesn’t that mean the responsibility for caring for all these grandmas and grandpas will fall on the shoulders of family and by families don’t we mean the female member? This will potentially cause devastation everywhere.
I know if I should need care someday, I prefer to be in my own home.
Under our current laws and benefits, the idea that the government will be there to help is not true. Medicare is not the answer. Medicare does not provide for long-term care.
This Kiplinger article has a great chart that shows even if you have heart disease or high cholesterol your life expectancy is still at least 85 for men and 87 for women.
I recommend everyone should have a plan. You’ll put your loved ones at ease if you’re able to assure them you have a plan.
